Bernard Fouquet might have been working as a model since 1976 and appeared in campaigns for Brooks Brothers, Tommy Hilfiger and J.M. Weston, among others, but the French native is much more than just a pretty face. In between, he’s gone to law school, become a lawyer, a helicopter pilot, started a line of cashmere socks and sweaters, dabbled in real estate and – most importantly – been the father of six children, including the acclaimed LA-based hatmaker Nick Fouquet. His motto to live by? Always keep moving.

What is your go-to holiday destination?

My two favourite places to holiday are Palm Beach, Florida during winter and then in summer I like to be at home, on the beach. I just love the sun.

What’s the hotel you keep returning to, and what makes it special?

I love Hotel Raphael in Paris – lots of great memories.

What do you wear to travel?

When I fly, it’s cotton gym pants, a T-shirt under a cashmere sweater and sneakers.

What were your last duty-free purchases?

Fragrance, fragrance and fragrance.

What’s your most memorable holiday fling?

On a flight going to Miami, 30 years ago – I can’t really talk about it! I do recall it as if it was yesterday, that’s all I can say…

What movie has the best resort style – why?

Death in Venice, by Visconti – so many elegant people on the lido! So much sophistication.

Who is your favourite travel companion?

My best companion is my daughter Anouk, but I also love to travel alone.

Has there ever been a time when the journey was actually better than the destination?

A few times – you meet people and that can make the journey extremely interesting and rich.
