The holidays wouldn’t be complete without the people who mean the most to you. As SMR Days prepares to celebrate its first festive season, we have gathered six of our longtime friends – who also happen to be some of fashion’s most influential and well-travelled names – to select the pieces from our Resort collection they hope to unwrap over the holidays. The result is a globe-trotting gift guide to please even the most picky of recipients.

Elgar Johnson

One of menswear’s most vital voices, Elgar Johnson has been fashion director of GQ Style since 2015, most recently curating last month’s ‘Liberation Issue’ inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Away from fashion, Elgar is an avid football fan, his chosen team Liverpool FC.

Tell us about the three pieces you have picked from the collection…

I selected the Striped Cotton Drawstring Trousers as they look comfortable and chic – perfect for a hot climate or the holidays when you want to eat as much as possible without the struggle of squeezing into your Christmas outfit. I also love a Grandad Collar Shirt. It allows me to live my fantasy of being a member of Oasis in the 90s. Then the Ecru Drawstring Shorts are really simple and stylish; I love the detail. The perfect remedy for looking good without trying too hard.

What is your favourite thing about the holiday season? If you could spend it anywhere, where would it be?

I love everything about the Christmas holidays. I usually spend Christmas with my family and friends. I would love to have Christmas at the cottage from the film The Holiday or at the Griswolds from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, my favourite Christmas film.

What’s the story behind your postcard?

The picture is from Positano. I first visited there a few years ago and I was so blown away – it looked like a film set. Such a beautiful and romantic place. I think I tried every restaurant and remember finding the most brilliant secret beach.

Miguel Enamorado

New York-based Miguel Enamorado is the fashion director of Harper’s Bazaar US and former fashion director of Interview, seeing the stylist work with numerous culture-defining names, from Rihanna to Demi Moore. Off-set, his fearless sense of personal style makes him one of fashion week’s most photographed faces.

Where was your postcard taken, and why did you choose it? Does it hold a special memory for you?

It’s taken in Rio De Janeiro, I’m deathly afraid of heights and slowly climbing up and up and up on a cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain definitely pushed my limits, but I conquered my fears and it was all worth it as the view and experience was life changing and mind-blowing for sure.

Why did you choose these three pieces?

I love the beautiful tonality of the embroidery of the Blue Cotton Day Shorts, contrasting the casual ease of a short with an elevated artisanal touch. Then with the Dusty Pink Tunic shirt, I’m a sucker for embellishments but mostly gorgeous colours that spark joy and feel instantly transported to a sunrise cocktail on pink sands on a tropical island. Finally, the Striped Cotton Drawstring Trousers encapsulate the louche and relaxed elegance of a summer day in the city, or on holiday in Mykonos.

Rajni Jacques

Rajni Jacques has worked at a slew of the world’s biggest magazines – NYLONGlamour and Teen Vogue among them – and is now the fashion director of Allureas well as consulting for some of the world’s biggest brands. In her spare time, she likes to paint at her home in Brooklyn, New York.

Tell us about your picks from the collection…

I love how loose-fitting and easy the Workwear Jacket is – in both blue and ecru. Having them in two colours is perfection – easy for everyday wear and vacation cover-up. Then the Navy and Green Single-Pleat Cotton Trousers I love because they are high-waisted – I can cuff them on the bottom to play with height, depending on if I wear flats or a heel.

If you could spend the holidays anywhere, where would it be?

Haiti – it’s one of the most underrated countries. The people are warm and grateful and the island holds so many nooks and crannies that have yet to be explored.

Where was your postcard taken?

It was taken in Haiti – I love going there, I’ve gone, but I want to go back again!

Ben Cobb

Ben Cobb is one of menswear’s foremost authorities, with a personal style to match. Formerly editor-in-chief of Another Man and menswear editor-in-chief of Love, his latest project is PERFECT, alongside Katie Grand.

What does the holiday season mean to you?

For me, the holiday season is a time to reflect on the year. I’m spending this holiday season in my favourite city Marrakech. I can’t think of anywhere better to draw a line under 2020 and start dreaming about what’s next.

Which three pieces from SMR Days would you like to give – or receive – this holiday season?

The pieces I’ve chosen are the White Cotton Patch Pocket Shirt – it makes downtime look chic. Brown is my favourite colour so the Brown Stripe Cotton Tunic Shirt is an immediate yes. And the White Linen Fitted Shorts provide perfect low-key elegance.

Tell us about the postcard you submitted…

This photo was taken on my honeymoon in Zanzibar. It’s a magical place with such special memories for my wife and I. We can’t wait to return.

Gabriele Hackworthy

In a career spanning over two decades, Australia-born Gabriele Hackworthy has brought her distinct eye – and canny knack for spotting the next big thing – to three international Vogue titles, British Harper’s BazaarNet-a-Porter, and more recently, Jimmy Choo. She now works as a consultant, bringing her creative vision to brands around the world.

Tell us the three pieces from SMR Days you want to receive this Christmas…

The pieces from SMR Days I’ve picked are the Pink and White Stripe Oversized Shirt – I will wear it belted, and turn it into a mini shirt dress for summer – the White Cotton Grandad Shirt – you can never have enough white shirts, and I would throw this over my bikini for a chic beach cover up – and the Ecru Straight-Leg Cotton Trousers. They are a cool, androgynous update to the white summer jeans I usually live in.

What is your favourite thing about the holidays?

I love the slower pace of the holiday season and giving myself permission to spend time with family and friends and eat, sleep and switch off. I usually go home to Sydney for Christmas – it’s my annual winter sun holiday.

Why did you choose your postcard?

I loved the scale of the Cinquecento against the grandeur of this former 15th-century monastery at Belmond Villa San Michele.

Robert Rabensteiner

A longtime mainstay on the men’s fashion week circuit – best known for his distinct, much-photographed personal wardrobe – Robert Rabensteiner is among menswear’s most influential names. Formerly fashion editor-at-large of L’Uomo Vogue, the stylist and consultant now contributes to titles around the world.

Which three pieces from SMR Days would you like to give – or receive – this holiday season?

I love workwear looks, guru jackets and pyjama looks – minimal, simple, elegant. I also like the colour blue, and linen – so the pieces I would love to receive are the Navy and Green Cotton Workwear Jacket, the Blue Cotton Herringbone Gilet and the Green Printed Silk Cuban-Collar Shirt.

What do you love about the holidays?

My favourite things about the holiday season are being with friends, travelling to new places, learning new cultures. If I could be anywhere, it would be Marrakech, Morocco.

Tell us the story behind your postcard…

It was taken in the Turkish countryside, a special moment with my dear friend Umit Benan.
