Photo: Harry Eelman Selected by SMR Days co-founder Adam Shapiro, this photograph – taken by photographer and friend Harry Eelman – captures a tuba player sitting just outside the entrance to Jazz Fest in New Orleans, Shapiro’s beloved hometown. “We encountered this tuba player as we were leaving Jazz Fest one day, a pilgrimage I’ve been on with the same crew of friends every year for many, many years. It’s one of my most cherished travel traditions – I was born and raised in New Orleans, and I love to share my hometown with friends from around the world, something I’ll continue to do second the pandemic is over. As for the picture, I think Harry puts it best: ‘music is a constant in this city. You can find full brass bands in tiny bars, second lines in the street, gospel in places of worship.
